we used to do this probably twice a year in the past. because of constraints we are doing table top discussions and drills. we hope to do more large scale community drills. before a close i want to share a couple of other things we are working on for the future. worn is having to do with trying to security and purchase food and water suppliers for the community. a majority of san francisco population and the china town community few would have enough food and water to last 3 days. for many of the sro residents one issue is even if they could where would they store the food and water in the cramped places. we will have food bars or energy bars to be located throughout the china town area for those in need. also one. other things is to work with the city and local businesses. we saw in 89 when folks accesses restaurants, markets, stores to access food supplies they were denied. we are trying to set up a system working with the local businesses to empower them to distribute their foods with the promised they will be reimbursed by the city f

for us where that started was at a basis of 0. there was no active coordinator in the neighborhood at the time. we decided to take it on. so our first priority was justifying a way of getting the information out. how do we connect with people in the neighborhood? where are the places we can go? what are the resources that already exist? we started with the farmers market. getting a free table from the guy who organized it and giving out information. that lead to other connections you meet people from log organizations and faith based and community groups all the different organizations whatever neighborhood has unique to itself where people talk and associate. that lead to a domino effect of the areas necessary which we could go out, talk to people and sort of spread the message of preparedness and also community the different resources that are available throughout the city. we developed program it is that were specific to our neighborhood. through the neighborhood association, through community based organization and through fai

so we've used some gis projections and we have had to use a two meter sea level rise because of the base maps we used, but you see a lot of that area would be inundated. even if it's only half as much, there's still a lot of expensive puc infrastructure that's going to be under water. under the heading of sharing the pain, i want to point out that bcdc's objectives will also be hard hit by sea level rise. over the past 40 years, we have required a lot of public access along the shore line of the bay, about a hundred miles of it. and a lot more access has been provided in public parks and through the bay trail. much of this could well be lost. now, after all this talk of doom and gloom, i have to put a caveat in here. bay waters won't rise slowly like -- and evenly like water filling a bathtub. the tide comes in, the tide goes out. so what we're talking about are trends in mean sea level. i prefer to use the term climate change to global warming when we're talking about this phenomenon we're dealing with because overall while the earth's atmosphere will be getting warmer, some places will
